After Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihiko Noda declared on July 7 that Japan plans to nationalize the Diaoyu Islands, the dispute between China and Japan over the islands escalated to a new level. Patriotic Chinese in the US has their say last Thursday.

19日早晨,纽约(New York)华人社团(Chinese associations)、学生组织[1]和普通民众在日本(Japan)驻纽约总领事馆[2]门前举行了上千人的保钓[3]示威活动[4]。  

报道称,纽约参加示威民众在华埠(Chinatown)孔子铜像(statue of Confucius)聚集。他们手拿中华人民共和国(People's Republic of China)国旗[5],以及各种横幅标语[6],共同前往日本驻纽约领事馆。在美东华人社团联合总会共同(East Coast Chinese Association Federation)主席梁冠军(Liang Guanjun)的率领[7]下,上千示威人群[8]在日本驻纽约领事馆楼下高呼[9]"钓鱼台(Diaoyu Islands)是中国的"等口号[10],抗议日本首相野田佳彦(Japanese prime minister Yoshihiko Noda)就钓鱼岛主权[11]问题做出的决定。

示威人群表示,日方对钓鱼岛采取任何单方面举措[12],都是非法[13]的,都不能改变这些岛屿属于中国的事实。梁冠军介绍说,为了维护主权不受侵犯[14],纽约华人社团决定在日本驻纽约总领事馆的举行保钓示威活动。

Morning of July 19, more than 1000 people from organizations of Chinese in New York, student organizations and ordinary people demonstrated in front of the Japanese Consulate in New York for the 'protection of the Diaoyu Islands'.

It is reported that the demonstrators gathered at the Confucius statue in Chinatown. They carried flags of the People's Republic of China and various placards, heading together towards the Japanese Consulate. Under the leadership of Liang Guangjun, chairman of the East Coast Chinese Association Federation, over one thousands demonstrators shouted underneath the Japanese Consulate "Diaoyu Islands belong to China" and other slogans. They protested against the decisiveness of Japanese prime minister Yoshihiko Noda on the matter of sovereign rights of the islands.

The demonstrators said that Japan is any unilateral measures that Japan might take concerning the Diaoyu Islands are illegal. They cannot change the reality by which the island belongs to China. Liang Guanjun explained that in order to protect sovereign rights from being violated, Chinese organizations in New York decided to demonstrate for the protection of the islands in front of the Japanese Consulate.
