Ding Liguo demands prohibiting governmental employees from consuming shark's-fins in official events print version
level 2
Awareness towards the protection of sharks and the problematic consumption of shark's-fins was brought lately by politician Ding Liguo. Whether or not governmental employees will restrain themselves from consuming this delicacy, the public shows greater curiosity towards the extravagancy of officials than to the ecological factor.

Ding Liguo, representative of the People's Congress, allied with 30 other representatives, submitted a motion that demands the prohibition of consuming shark's-fin as a culinary delicacy in events of government employees. In the past few days, persons in charge reported that they hope that within three years there will be a regulation not to serve shark's-fin in events of officials.

This proposal of 30 representatives reflects a concern towards the current ecological crisis. They hope that through the example they serve, government employees will bring about awareness to protect sharks to the entire society. On the global level, eating fins becomes a symbol of uncivilized behavior. The UN has encouraged Japan, Argentina, Uruguay, Canada and Malaysia and other countries, where there are new regulations that supervise consumption of shark's-fins and killing of sharks.

The public does not really know what is the proportion that shark's-fins occupy within the consumption expenses of government employees, but it would be better if they could not afford this kind of high-price dish.
