The issue of same-age retirement for men and woman has still not been included in 'outline for China's 10 year women-children development plan' and is still being researched. Deputy director of the 'National Working Committee on Children and Women under the State Council' under and vice chairmen of the National Women's Federation, Song Xiuyan, has said during a press conference that concerning the issue of retirement age, every country makes policies according to its actual situation, and that the National Women's Federation pays close attention to this issue, and reports about it to relevant departments. Since the issue of retirement age involves many departments, such departments at presents conduct investigation & research on this issue.
In 1978, the standing committee of the People's Congress has approved two regulations made by the State Council, which are 'State Council provisional measures for assisting old, weak, sick and disabled cadres' and 'State Council's provisional measurements concerning retirement of workers'. According to these two regulations, retirement age for men is 60, and is 55 for women government employees and 50 for women workers.
Last year the Judiciary Committee for Internal Affairs of the National People's Congress suggested that the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security regards the issue of the aging Chinese population course, giving women the option (but not the obligation) to retire early. This could reflect the state protection of women's rights and interests, as well as gradually solve the inequality in the retirement age between men and women. Later, the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security shall consider the circumstances, cautiously researching the issue of women retirement age.
