2008年，美国梦工厂(Dreamworks)动画公司接到来自成都(Chengdu, Sichuan province)的邀请，期望他们到"熊猫故乡"近距离接触熊猫的生活。梦工厂CEO卡森博格(Jeffrey Katzenberg)直言："《功夫熊猫2》加入了许多成都元素，犹如‘代言'了成都。成都、熊猫和电影已经融为了一体。"
在《功夫熊猫2》中，熊猫阿宝(Abao)要挑战的是太极的精髓---"内心平静"（Inner Peace）。在电影中，阿宝的父亲开的是一家面条店。老外不理解是什么面条。因为他们对面食的理解只限于唐人街(Chinatown)的中国饭馆。在《功夫熊猫2》中，不但出现了"担担面" ，还有"麻婆豆腐"和火锅，都是具有代表性的成都小吃。很多主要角色的衣服是红色的。这是因为主创看到太极表演人员都穿着红色的衣服。红色在中国文化中有很重要的意义，中国人非常喜欢红色。因此在《功夫熊猫2》中必须有很多红色的元素。很多特色建筑和雕塑，例如房顶上的熊猫装饰都在电影中得到体现。使第二部的整体环境和氛围更加真实。
'Kong-Fu Panda', has gained box-office revenues of more than $630 million worldwide, including more than 180 million RMB in China, more than the 'Lion King' from 13 years ago. The first part of 'Kong-fu Panda' established a foundation of fans; adding a favorable schedule and good public praise, box-office success of 'Kong-fu Panda 2' should exceed revenues of the first part.

In 2008, the US Dreamworks animation company has accepted an invitation to visit Chengdu, with the hope that Dreamworks members reach the 'panda hometown' and meet real Pandas from close range. Dreamworks CEO Jeffrey Katzenberg spoke openly, saying that many elements from Chengdu have been incorporated in 'Kong-Fu Panda 2', and the movie can be seen as a 'spokesman' of Chengdu. Chengdu, pandas and the film have already been mixed into one integral whole."
Before 'Kong-Fu Panda 2' premieres, the Dreamworks production personnel have confessed about real events: At the time of the making of 'Kong-Fu Panda', the entire movie crew had never seen a genuine panda and relied only on Google search. Elements of China within the film have all came from referring sources. Chief art manager of 'Kong-Fu Panda 2' has revealed that the main sources were China's traditional landscape paintings, as well as many successful Kong-Fu movies. In order to make up for the flaws of the first part, 'Kong-Fu Panda 2' crew has visited China, for the first time, three years ago, arriving at the 'pandas hometown' Chengdu. In this sequel, Chinese elements have been incorporated authentically.
In 'Kong-Fu Panda 2', the panda Po must master the essence of Taiji - "Inner Peace". In this film, Po's father is running a family noodle restaurant. Foreigners don't comprehend what is the type of these noodles, since their understanding of noodles is limited to Chinese restaurants in Chinatowns. In 'Kong-Fu Panda 2', not only Sichuan noodles (dandan mian) appear, but also Mapo Doufu (stir-fried tofu) and hotpot, which are all typical Chengdu dishes. Many major characterswear red apparel, as main producer has seen that Taiji performers wear red clothes. Red has an important meaning in Chinese culture and Chinese love red. Therefore, many red elements must appear in 'Kong Fu Panda 2'. Many distinguished buildings and sculptures, for example panda roof decorations are reflected in the film, making the overall environment and atmosphere in the second part more authentic.
