Happy Girl' and other reality shows are no longer flourishing print version
level 3

The following article refers to latest criticism and drop of popularity of some of China's reality shows, and it also you introduces how this genre was adopted in China

From 2004 until now, the reality programs are already airing for 8 years, and have encountered a lot of doubt. This year, the old reality show "happy girl" has met even more condemnation, as the show quality is declining, and rise of other show patterns, have lead reality-talent shows to face unprecedented accusations.

The earliest three representative reality shows were Hunan satellite's 'super female voice', CCTV's 'China's dream ', and Dongfang satellite's 'my type, my show'. In 2005, reality-talent shows were extremely 'hot', yet today, China's reality shows, with 'happy girl' among them, whether their influence is considered, the candidates' level, or whether they are worth watching, they cannot duplicate the glory of that year. The talent of competitors in recent years is far worse than the 'older generation'.

The evaluation committee of the reality shows is also not as good as before. In previous years, Gao Xiaosong, Bao Xiaobo were professional judges, and had a distinct standard when evaluating the competitors. Yet, nowadays the judges lack a distinct style, sharp language and evaluation standards. Providing the show with an evaluation requires possessing a genuine all-round quality, only then can the show have a lasting high degree of viewers' attention.

In talent shows, the accusations are most direct. Because real (normal) people are more or less similar to competitors, such shows have a greater sense of reality and conflict. For example, in 'China's all-round talent', not only singing is viewed, but also dancing and folk arts, and viewers can even enjoy skills that are about to become extinct. This type of show uses human interest to touch people, the old and the young can all enjoy, and hence the shows are highly popular.

Matchmaking reality shows are a swift and violent type of shows that are developing in recent years. Such shows have handsome men and beautiful women. The major point for ordinary people is that matchmaking shows demand universality.

'Job site' shows is also a new rising TV show style, adopting a job recruitment format. Competitors and job officials interact, developing the candidates until one can finally obtain a job offer. 'Job site' shows are similar to 'matchmaking shows' in the fact they have a practical function, and their sense of participation is very extensive.

China's various kinds of reality shows are all a small local scale of American Idol and other foreign shows. The reality shows are now beginning to be inseparable of new media, utilizing micro-blogs to allow competitors to spread out interactions.
